Gardere Receives Dallas ISD Superintendent’s Award for Annual MLK Jr. Oratory Competition

April 24, 2015 - PRLog -- DALLAS – Dallas Independent School District Superintendent of Schools Mike Miles presented Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP with the 2015 Superintendent’s Award at the Board of Trustees meeting on April 23. The Firm was recognized for its outstanding ongoing support of Dallas ISD through the Annual Gardere MLK Jr. Oratory Competition.

“Gardere is grateful to have the opportunity to partner with Dallas ISD to provide this unique forum for students to not only enrich their presentation skills, but also to celebrate equality and diversity in our communities,” says Gardere Chair Holland N. O’Neil. “We are honored to receive the prestigious Superintendent’s Award, and we are thankful for all of the Gardere lawyers and staff, as well as the Dallas ISD staff, who volunteer their time to make the competition possible.”

Gardere has partnered with Dallas ISD to sponsor the oratory competition since 1993. Now in its 23^rd year, the event is held in conjunction with Martin Luther King Jr. Day to pay tribute to the great civil rights leader by extolling his work and teachings through today’s youth.

Fourth- and fifth-grade students are invited to participate, each presenting original three- to five-minute speeches addressing a topic designed to help them learn more about Dr. King’s impact on civil rights. For this year’s competition, students addressed the question: “If Dr. King were to win the Nobel Peace Prize today, what would he say in his acceptance speech?”

The Dallas ISD Superintendent’s Award is presented to an individual, business or group that has given outstanding support on a district-wide basis.
