KENT, Ohio - April 22, 2015 - PRLog -- Four College of Business Administration students traveled to Kennesaw State University to compete in the National Collegiate Sales Competition (NCSC) April 7-10. Senior entrepreneurship student, Josie Gilliland placed 20th out of 124 total competitors from 62 different colleges.

Alayna Harris, junior business management major placed 60th, while two student alternates, Evan Martone and Brittany Gorrell helped sales Instructor Ellen Daniels coach the Kent State team.

“Though this was only our second appearance at this event, our success proves that our students are well prepared to compete against the top sales students in the country in sales,” said Daniels.

The NCSC undergraduate competition is a basic sales call skills challenge.  The competition is an elimination style tournament where all participants compete in the opening round.

During the first round all competitors call on the same fictional organization and sell the same product. The round includes nine different flights with up to eight competitors, who have the same set of judges and same buyer. Top scoring performers move on to the quarter-final round, while other competitors continue via a “wildcard” bracket, immediately following the opening round. Wildcard winners also move on to the quarter-final round.

“Being able to represent the College of Business Administration at NCSC was such a blessing. I was lucky to have amazing coaches like Greg Graham and Ellen Daniels, along with fellow students coaching me during the entire process, it was truly a team win,” Gilliland said. “To be the first Kent State student to go as far as I did in the competition is still something I'm trying to wrap my head around. If it wasn't for competitions like NCSC, I wouldn't have found my dream job at Tom James Clothiers and for that I am profoundly grateful.”

The NCSC also featured a job fair where students met with companies such as HP, Johnson and Johnson, Tom James Clothiers, Intel, Cisco, Mohawk Carpet and ADP.

“The competition also allowed our students to have the opportunity to interview on-site with major corporations and they are considering offers for internships and full-time positions around the country,” said Daniels.

Gilliland has accepted a position with Tom James Clothiers in Washington, DC.

Harris was offered an internship with HP, and Gorrell is interviewing with HP for their Rosedale, CA location. Martone is interviewing with HP, Liberty Mutual and Staples Advantage.

The NCSC’s mission is:

·         To promote the sales profession as an honorable and viable career option for college graduates.

·         To present an opportunity for corporate sponsors to preview and interact with top collegiate prospects.

·         To furnish a venue for highly talented and qualified students to exhibit and enhance selling skills on a national stage.

·         To provide a venue for students, professors and sales executives to share sales philosophies, techniques and educational methods.
