Artists Statement about the works

I always find it very difficult to write or talk about my works. Once I was trying to explain a curator about my work and he asked me 'So what kind of work you do?' I replied “I paint”.  He asked ‘what kind of paintings?’ and I found myself struggling to look for a word that I could use to explain my work over a telephonic conversation and I said 'non experimental'. When our conversation ended, I realized I was kind of embarrassed with this short talk about my art with that curator.

I am forced to write about my art because I am told that it is important, to grow and that is how art reach out to people. My works in this exhibition are non-representational. I call my paintings a visual diary and each painting a page from my diary. My paintings are spontaneous and are based on intuitive creative instinct that leaves no chance for prior planning. The process of painting gives me immense joy where the act of painting becomes more important than the painting itself. Any work of Art I think is like a piece of music which needs to be experienced and not explained. It is the feelings that are the ‘instrument’ on which colours and tones play their tunes. The media are different but both set the feelings in motion. Generally speaking colour is a power that directly influences the soul.

I have no particular philosophy; I do not care much for dogmas, disciplines, school of thoughts, fashion or style. A painting is either good, bad or indifferent; its label is of no consequence at all. I am basically a happy person and have a great love of life. To me art is an expression of life and every time I include an expression of life in painting, I produce art.

I like to leave it on the viewers to decide what they want to see in my canvas. In this exhibition also viewers are welcome to write about their interpretations. Their interpretations allow me to have so many different perspectives about my own work.
