Helping underprivileged youth get instruments through my platform with the Miss Florida Organization
Miss Florida and the Miss America Organization is the world's largest provider of scholarship dollars for young women. The Miss Florida Scholarship competition will be held June 16th-20th at the Mahaffey Theatre in St. Petersburg, FL. The organization promotes collegiate success and well-roundedness in young women. One essential aspect is that each contestant engages in a platform.
As Miss Manatee River and a sophomore piano principle music education major at Florida State University, my mission is to empower students and schools to keep music education in the classroom. My platform is “Excellence in Education through Music”. Since a young girl, I have been playing the piano at nursing homes and donating musical instruments to schools and homeless family shelters.
This year I am determined to make a larger impact on music education by reaching at-risk youth in Title I schools. Research has proven that access to a quality music education engages students in the classroom and increases graduation rates; improves early cognitive development, math and reading skills; and enhances learning in other core subjects. Just recently, the U.S. Senate Committee proposed a bipartison bill to change the No Child Left Behind Act to add music as a core academic subject!
I hope that you will join other educational leaders and music enthusiasts in supporting "Excellence in Education through Music" to help me reach Title I school administrators and students as they engage in learning about music. My goal is to raise money to be able to donate musical instruments for at-risk youth in Title I schools.
With Just 19 days left in this campaign, your support is urgently needed! Please consider getting involved, at whatever level you can, and help “Excellence in Education through Music” get funded!
