HONOLULU - April 17, 2015 - PRLog -- A new martial arts documentary film has begun production in Hawaii. WARRIOR ARTS DEADLY DANCE - THE WAY OF KATA IN THE MARTIAL ARTS has begun interviews and filming demontrations from several prominent experts in Karate, Kung Fu, and various other fighting arts. The film features well known martial artists on Oahu including Sensei Jann Aki (Goju Ryu), Jeet Kune Do Unlimited Founder - Burton Richardson, Sensei David & Stacie Knight (Isshin Ryu & Kobudo), Sifu Kieran Tong (Choy Lee Fut Kung Fu), Muay Thai Boran Instructor Dan Kaetsu, Grand Master David Ippen (Traditional Tae Kwon Do), Japanese Sword Master Henry Smalls, along with several other high profile black belts.

The film focuses on the practice of Kata, highly choreographed, prearranged techniques executed in a dance like manner.  In this story of the birth and growth of Kata (patterns or forms), we discover that each style is unique; they're all branches of the same vital tree. Kata is the thread weaving these diverse styles together. Kata is also a time-capsule, revealing exactly how these deadly arts developed centuries ago. Hidden within the kata we discover "secret" techniques, applications not always apparent. The method of deciphering this mysterious code known as "bunkai". In this ground-breaking film, the masters reveal and analyze  hidden bunkai applications.

The film is being produced by directors Al & Jayne Cloutier of World Class Productions. As a student of Okinawan Karate for 38 years, Albert is bringing together his passion for filmmaking with his love of the martail arts.Says Albert "For me, this is a labor of love to promote and encourage the study of the martial arts. And Kata is the essence of all traditional styles from Karate, Kung Fu, Kobudo, Japanese Swordsmanship, etc. In my way of understanding, Kata is what transforms and elevates mere "fighting" into an Art. That being said, I also undertand that there are some fighters who diagree strongly with that statement. Controversial disagreement among some martial artists will also be exposed in our film. Advocates of sparring and "more realistic" combative arts, there are some vocal critics who compare the practice of kata to "swimming on dry land". After hearing arguments for and against the practice in the film, I ask that you be the judge. Decide for yourself if kata is effective or not. "

Albert continues "As we learn about kata, we will also learn about a philosophy and moral code embedded within the arts. In today's world of political uncertainty, street crime, and fears of terrorism, it's easy to focus entirely on physical techniques. Karate is much more than just fighting. Warrior Arts Deadly Dance reminds us of the true nature of the Martial Arts: they are ultimately a Way of life."

One of the martial artists high lighted in the film, Japanese Sword Master Henry Smalls, has already been featured in several articles, participated in international Kendo competitions, and appeared in many films. A double leg amputee (a result of a train accident as a child), Mr. Smalls stands high in moral stature, none the less. Sensei Smalls exemplifies the martial art virtue of Indomitable Spirit in the film. A multiple black belt in Karate and Kendo. Henry is not only an inspiration, he is a true renaissance man. Deeply spiritual, yet filled with common sense, his interview in the film provides advice on how the practice of Kata can not only hone our skills, but also our spirit. Sensei Henry is also an accomplished musician. His music is widely popular on ReverbNation under the name SumomosDojo.
