MILTON, Ontario - April 17, 2015 - PRLog -- A properly ventilated home is vital to your health and comfort. Aeroseal is key to proper ventilation in residential homes and commercial buildings.

“Poor exhaust ventilation has historically been a thorn in the side of engineers and building managers. Stale air, mold issues and window condensation are all symptoms of an ineffective exhaust system. It’s very exciting and encouraging that Aeroseal is now presenting a solution for leaky exhaust shafts,” said Alan Beech, of Halton-based Aeroseal Canada.

Aeroseal technology has been used to address ventilation issues in buildings across North America, even a church.  Ottawa’s St. Albans is a 145 year-old stone building which recently underwent an extensive renovation, including a new HVAC system. When completed, the energy recovery ventilation (ERV) unit wasn’t able to draw enough air into the intake side or blow out enough air on the other end which meant the basement was not being heated and the shower and kitchen were not ventilated.

The problem was leaks in the newly installed ductwork. Without the ease and effectiveness of Aeroseal duct sealing, the church’s walls would have been removed to manually seal the ducts. In a matter of a few hours, the entire duct system was sealed, from the inside out, reducing leakage by 92 percent.

During the duct sealing process, a non-toxic mist is applied that travels throughout the interior of a home’s entire duct system.  The microscopic particles of sealant collect around the leaks and cracks until a permanent, eco-friendly, airtight seal is created. Aeroseal reaches all the leaks, even those behind walls and under insulation.  A diagnostic test is then performed to measure the improvement in energy efficiency.

Aeroseal Technology

First developed in 1994 by researchers at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Aeroseal technology provides a highly effective method for sealing leaky ductwork in residential homes and commercial buildings. The Aeroseal process has proven to be the most effective, affordable and viable method of sealing leaky ductwork. More than 100,000 homes throughout the U.S. have been treated with Aeroseal.

Aeroseal was selected as Popular Science’s “Invention of the Year” and was recently named to the U.S. Department of Energy’s “Top 100 Inventions” of the last 23 years. In 2012, Consumer Reports magazine voted Aeroseal the “Number 1 Energy Solution for Reducing Energy Costs”. The technology has recently become available in Ontario.
