Children’s of Alabama to Use Custom Libman Education Skills Assessments

BEDFORD, Mass. - April 16, 2015 - PRLog -- In response to the growing regional and national shortage of skilled and credentialed coders,  Children’s of Alabama – ranked by US News & World Report as one of the best children’s hospital programs in the nation – has launched a new initiative to identify potential coding candidates.  Libman Education, a leading Healthcare Workforce Training provider, has been contracted to develop customized coder skills assessments designed to identify candidates’ skill levels as well as accurately projecting their potential success as a coder. Libman Education’s extensive suite of assessments combine questions and coding scenarios specially-tailored for the hospital’s coding needs. It is delivered online and provides useful reporting to allow the facility to evaluate the coder’s skills and monitor their progress.

“The assessments provide a way to help us better discover which coding applicants would best match our needs,” said Santrell Marsh, MS, RHIA, Director of Medical Information Services for Children’s of Alabama. “Hiring can be a Catch-22: you have to hire people based on how suited they are for your organization, and yet, you don’t really know how well suited people are for your organization until after they are hired and you gauge their work performance. Much of this dilemma can be alleviated through the assessment’s carefully targeted questions, which measure one’s coding abilities.”

Libman Education’s suite of customizable coding assessments include ICD-9, CPT, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and home health coding.
