MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - April 16, 2015 - PRLog -- The U.S. Pain Foundation is proud to announce that Cindy Steinberg, National Director of Policy & Advocacy has been appointed to the Interagency Pain Research Coordinating Committee (IPRCC). As part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the IPRCC was created by the Department of Health and Human Services to enhance pain research efforts and promote collaboration across the government, with the ultimate goals of advancing the fundamental understanding of pain and improving pain-related treatment strategies.

IPRCC, the highest ranking pain policy oversight committee in the United States, has been charged by the Health and Human Services Secretary with oversight of the development of the National Pain Strategy our country’s first comprehensive population-health level plan to transform pain prevention, care, education and research.

The Committee is composed of seven Federal members and twelve non-Federal members, six drawn from the scientific and medical communities and six members of the public and stakeholder groups. Steinberg’s appointment will extend to 2017.

“I am honored to serve among this distinguished group of pain leaders and experts,” said Steinberg.  “As a member of this committee, I will thoroughly familiarize myself with the broad range of programs that comprise the federal pain research portfolio in order to help guide us toward the most promising areas. Advances in pain research hold the keys to more effective treatments for the millions of Americans whose lives have been devastated by chronic pain. This work represents hope for people with pain and I am pleased to contribute in whatever way I can.”

“Chronic pain is enormously complex. Effective treatments have eluded us and left too many Americans suffering.  It is critical that we enlist the best and brightest minds in the pain world in this endeavor and Cindy is unquestionably in that category” said Paul Gileno, President and Founder of the U.S.  Pain Foundation.  “I am delighted to see her appointed to this committee.”
