LOUISVILLE, Ky. - April 30, 2015 - PRLog -- Active Heroes, a 501c3 charity, opened its first Military Family Community Center on February 27th at 11 AM EST. The Community Center is located at 8701 Old Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40291, approximately 30 minutes from downtown Louisville, the VA hospital, and Bullitt County’s Active Heroes Retreat Center. The new location features an activity room that is open Tuesday- Friday 9 AM to 5 PM. There will be designated times on Saturdays when families can relax, play board games, and converse in one of the conference rooms. In addition, the 1700 square foot location is Wi-Fi ready!

Keeping with their healthy lifestyle mission for military veterans walking through the healing process of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), there will be no smoking and no bar at the community center location. The most important feature of the community center is that it offers a multitude of free support, seminars and activities for military families. Cross-fit workouts, yoga, meditation classes, acupuncture treatments, hiking events and scheduled camping dates are among the offerings. All activity times will be listed in the front lobby of the community center. Free seminars on a variety of lifestyle topics are planning in collaboration with Sullivan University, as well as financial planning and investment classes from local banks. Resilience training to help reduce military veteran suicide will be one of the cornerstone seminar subjects. As the Center grows, they will add more classes that will help to benefit military veterans and their families.

In the lobby of the Center, military families and veterans will be able to access business discounts and program that will give them assistance outside of Active Heroes’ programs. Participants will be able to connect with resources such as; Legal Aid Society for legal support, Where Opportunity Knox to apply for jobs, DAV Chapter 6 for veteran benefit claims, and many more.

“This community center is a pilot program where we are going to test how much the military families will enjoy seminars, activities and service connections. If we get a lot of requests for more cross-fit or other activities, we will work towards funding more them and keep the costs free to the families,” said Troy Yocum, Active Heroes founder and Citizen Honors Medal Recipient. “It’s important that our community here in Kentucky supports the 340,000 veterans and all of their family members with the vision of helping prevent military veteran suicide. This first of it’s kind Military family retreat center is a big step towards accomplishing that goal.”

If you’re an organization or business that would like to connect with the Center, are a military veteran or family member in need of assistance or would like to make a donation, visit the Active Heroes website at http://activeheroes.org.
