VANCOUVER, British Columbia - April 10, 2015 - PRLog -- The 21st century is the Age of the Environment. As we find ourselves on the cusp of unprecedented global change, public interest in biological conservation is growing. In this collection of wide-ranging essays, author Jim Schaefer explores our relationship with science, the environment, economy, and living things. Two Houses assumes its title from the Greek, oikos, meaning ‘house’ – the linguistic roots of both ‘ecology’ and ‘economy’. The common etymology underscores the significance of both houses for human well-being. Most of these essays appeared in Jim‘s quarterly column in Peterborough Examiner, with a few more from the Toronto Star and Edmonton Journal. He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed scientific articles. As a Leopold Leadership Fellow and a member of International Boreal Conservation Science Panel, he is also committed (and trained) to communicate science to non-scientists. Jim has been interviewed by the print and broadcast media on numerous occasions, and has written dozens of newspaper articles as well as plain-language technical documents for government, NGOs, and the public.
