SOJP ‘s seventh annual event will be just that, as we showcase a diverse group of musicians and wordsmiths from Philadelphia and around the country. All performers were selected based on their high level of artistry from previous editions of Spotlight on Jazz and Poetry. This event’s goal is to not only entertain, but also to keep jazz and poetry alive and in the forefront of our culture and consciousness. Host/producer Clayton Corley, Sr. feels that “jazz and poetry were made for each other. Both have elements of improvisation and are major ways of communicating with one another. These two art forms need to be passed down to future generations.” “Clay and SOJP deserve kudos for the effort. I can’t wait until the next event!” (David Mills, 2014 attendee) About Spotlight On Jazz and Poetry Spotlight On Jazz and Poetry, an online program, was founded by Clayton Corley, Sr. in April of 2006 The concept of the program is based on pairing jazz musicians and their poetic contemporaries.
