Klingons, Free Comic Books and a Food Drive

LOVES PARK, Ill. - April 7, 2015 - PRLog -- On May 2^nd, Klingons from the Klingon Armada International Ship IKV Talons of Honor will be holding a food drive at Top Cut Comics in LovesPark. The event coincides with a National event called “Free Comic Book Day.” The food drive will benefit the Rock River Valley Food Pantry.

According to the Klingon Armada International website, the club is “a multi-faceted group of fans who have taken our love of Star Trek and turned into a high profile, fun-loving club. We are unified by an affinity for the Klingons, and adopt Klingon personas and appearance. We participate in the traditional Star Trek activities such as conventions and movie premiers; we get together for meetings and social activities, and we take an active interest in the community and charity service, usually in full Klingon battle gear.” The IKV Talons of Honor is the local chapter of the club (or “ship” as they are called).

Free Comic Book Day is a single day when participating comic book specialty shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely free (while supplies last) to anyone who comes into their shops! TopCutComicsLovesPark is located at 5600 North Second. The store will be open from 11 AM until 10 PM on free comic book day, and accepting food donations the entire day. Klingons will definitely be in the store when the store opens and the entire early part of the day, but possibly not for the whole day.

The Rock River Valley Pantry provides food to those in urgent need. As a community based pantry they provide 3-4 days of healthy, nutritious food to men, women, and children every month. In October 2013 7,895 clients used the pantry. 40% were children and 7% were over the age of 65. They rely on food drives, fundraisers, state issued commodities, and grants to meet the need of those going hungry. During their last fiscal year they had more than 74,000 user visits and distributed 1,080,000 pounds of food. Every dollar and every can donated makes a difference to someone going hungry!
