As school testing ramps up, an alternative takes off

Startup offers an easy way to connect students and classrooms to inspiring, hands-on learning experiences in their community.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - April 1, 2015 - PRLog -- EDvite (, a free education website that connects learners to hands-on learning experiences in their community, officially launched its Beta site on March 28, 2015.  By using Google maps and other technology, EDvite makes it easier than ever for community-based organizations, museums, mentoring groups, and experts to engage with classrooms and learners.  Organizations can post programs, field trips, summer camps, and other learning opportunities free of charge.  In turn, teachers and parents can sort through a curated menu by city, region, state, grade level or topic.

EDvite offers an alternative view of teaching and learning by placing an emphasis on the act of doing, experiencing, and connecting rather than aligning and assessing in a hyper-testing environment.  According to the company’s founders, EDvite is more than just a website; it is a vehicle that allows teachers, parents, and communities the chance to decide what matters most in learning. “We believe,” the founder noted, “that given a choice and a tool, parents will decide that connecting to the world around us is what matters most.  We just want to make this easier." is free of charge for all users. They currently offer more than 300 opportunities in 75 communities across 30 states. Any organization seeking to connect with schools or students is encouraged to setup an account today.

About EDvite: EDVite was founded in Boston and is headquartered in St. Petersburg, Florida.   They are a registered Florida Benefit Corporation (B-corp) and are a member of the Tampa Bay TECgarage incubator.  EDvite is currently raising funds to develop a mobile app version of the site.  Those interested in supporting may visit the crowdfunding platform
