Digitalis: professional development for healthcare professionals. right under the fingers!

Nick Harvey is the creator of the app, and here is what he had to say about his motivations behind its development:

"I am a General Practitioner (GP) and GP Trainer but have been interested in medical education and IT for many years (and more recently mobile tech).

The idea for the app was born because of my frustrations with logging my learning in preparation for my annual appraisal (a legal responsibility for all specialist doctors and now nurses). I often had pieces of paper here and there, emails and other files in electronic format and at the end of each year I would frantically collate them and think up some reflections. Talking with my peers revealed it’s not just me!"

Digitalis delivers a variety of highly focused functionality on a variety of platforms including tablets and mobiles:

·         Access to sources and reference material - up-to-date industry news, articles from medical journals, regulatory guidance and many other relevant sources are directly accessible through the app and can be added directly to CPD logs to provide proof that they have been accessed and read.

·         Personalised feeds - based on a user’s interests, personal development programme or curriculum gaps, Digitalis will provide a continuous live stream of relevant information. This can even include job postings and prompts to revise material recently covered.

·         CPD - evidence of a user’s ongoing education can be recorded automatically, in text, voice or pictures, and is both searchable and shareable.

·         Information sharing - CPD logs and learning materials can be exported in PDF format or shared with colleagues on Facebook and LinkedIn.

Digitalis has been designed and developed by medics for medics, and is both logical and easy to use. Smartphone versions are available in both Android and iOS.
