Lake Quassapaug Association Beneficiary Of 'Subs & Such Beer Fest'

MIDDLEBURY, Conn. - March 31, 2015 - PRLog -- MIDDLEBURY, Conn. – The Lake Quassapaug Association will be the beneficiary of  “Subs & Such Beer Fest” slated for Saturday, May 2, in the Fieldside Pavilion at Quassy Amusement & Waterpark here.

 For every ticket sold for the 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. event, $5 will go toward the association’s efforts to help keep the waters in Lake Quassapaug clean.

 Those 21 years of age and older can sample more than two-dozen craft beers during the afternoon. Pre-sale tickets are $36 for those 21 and older and available at www.quassy.com. Use promo code BEERFEST. Those under 21 may purchase tickets at $26 which include all-day rides – noon to 6 p.m. – and a voucher valid for a hamburger or hot dog, french fries and a soft drink. Parking at Quassy is $7 and not included with the event ticket.

 “Quassy (amusement park) has long been committed to the community and environment and it’s nice to hold a fun event to benefit the purity and longevity of the lake,” said George Frantzis, association president and an owner of the park. “It’s a win-win situation for those in the community and others who enjoy the lake now and for generations to come.”

About The Association

 In 2012, more than 60 Lake Quassapaug area residents attended a  presentation on the lake’s water quality hosted by representatives from the State Agricultural Experimentation Center. The consensus at the meeting was to establish a Lake Quassapaug Association to ensure continuation of the high water quality and address issues,  such as invasive weeds, affecting the lake. Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection had strongly encouraged the establishment of a Lake Quassapaug Association with which the state can negotiate permits for remediation or other issues.

 Following that meeting , three committees were formed: governance, dam , plants and invasives which all met and made recommendations during 2012. The Governance Committee adopted proposed mission and by-laws for a Lake Quassapaug Association which were presented at an open meeting  in October, 2012.  Based on the comments at this meeting, the by-laws were revised to ensure representation on the board of directors from individual homeowners, homeowner associations, clubs around the lake, Quassy Amusement & Waterpark and the Town of Middlebury.

 The Governance Committee applied to the State of Connecticut for incorporation as a nonprofit organization, and an initial 16 member board of directors was selected which met for the first time on January 8, 2013.
