Utah Judge Sued In Federal Court For Civil Rights Violations Alleging Conspiracy, Bias & Malfeasance

SALT LAKE CITY - March 30, 2015 - PRLog -- Today, Mr. Anthony Babbitt & Mr. Phillip Willson of Salt Lake City, Utah filed a Civil Rights lawsuit in Federal Court under U.S. Code 42 § 1983, 1985 & 1986 against Judge Mark Kouris of the 3^rd Judicial District , State of Utah (case 2:15cv00208). The suit alleges Judge Kouris acted in extreme bias & retaliation against Babbitt & Willson, and utilized a network he had created to 'do favors' for friends & to aid in covering up his actions. Furthermore, Judge Kouris relied on his relationship with a Utah Supreme Court Judge of similar Greek heritage to cover up his misdeeds.

Judge Kouris has been on the bench since 2006 and over that time has developed a reputation for bias and abuse of office. His Facebook.com page lists over 400 friends that include other members of the Greek community for whom he has abused his judicial office to perform legal favors. Also noteworthy are 'friends' of local attorneys & prosecutors whom he calls upon to aid in getting charges dismissed, fines eliminated or reduced, tax liens removed and other legal favors as spelled out in the complaint.

Babbitt & Willson previously filed 5 motions to disqualify Judge Kouris upon the grounds of obvious bias in their cases and Judge Kouris violated Utah law and entered his own ruling denying the motions, and is now stalking & punishing them for reporting him to the Utah Judicial Conduct Commission. Furthermore, Judge Kouris called on another member of the local Greek community, Utah Supreme Court Justice Constantinos Himonas, to also enter similar orders protecting Judge Kouris, but in violation of Utah Code of Judicial Conduct. While on the Utah Judicial Conduct Commission, Supreme Court Justice Himonas protected Judge Kouris from an unusually large amount of complaints filed against him from both private parties and attorneys.

The lawsuit filed by Babbitt & Willson alleges bad acts on the part of Judge Kouris, conspiracy between Judge Kouris & Judge Himonas to cover up those acts and failure of the Utah Judicial Conduct Committee to stop and prevent further abuses of the judicial office by Judge Kouris. Judge Himonas was just appointed to the Utah Supreme Court in February 2015. The Utah Supreme Court oversees the entire Utah judiciary.

Within their federal civil rights complaint, Babbitt & Willson note the types of cases Judge Kouris has been intervening in to help his Greek friends, as well as the fact that members of this community have come forward to offer their assistance to Babbitt & Willson in aiding their cases before Judge Kouris. While the lawsuit does not name these parties, Babbitt & Willson have at least three parties who are willing to testify that Judge Kouris performed favors for them utilizing his judicial office to reduce or remove criminal charges & fines on their behalf, as fellow members of the Greek community in Salt Lake City.
