March 26, 2015 - PRLog -- Scottsdale, AZ- March 13, 2015- TomCat Films, LLC is pleased to announce that Olive Films has teamed with Tim League’s Alamo Drafthouse to release an HD remastered version of ‘Roar’ theatrically.  League recently commented on the release: “We are extremely proud to expose Roar to a whole new audience and salute its esteemed place on the “Holy F***ing S***” shelf for all the right reasons.”

TomCat holds the worldwide distribution rights to Roar and CEO Ted Chalmers sold English-speaking world rights to Olive Films on the film which Chalmers calls, “a cinematic masterpiece.”  Chalmers acquired the rights through John Marshall, son of the film’s producer, director and lead, Noel Marshall. “John and I met years ago and began working together to sell the original version of film,” Chalmers explains, “Last year, I was able to convince him that we should re-master the film to True HD and create an all new master from restored footage found in Germany.  It’s been a long journey but we have accomplished that feat.”  The film’s re-mastering and restoration was overseen by DigiDreams Studios in Germany and Tempe Video in the U.S.

“Roar is a classic film best known for filming on location at a wildlife preserve with more than 150 wild lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars and elephants,” states Marshall.  “These animals were not trained performers and added a level of danger to the set that would make the stories behind Apocalypse Now sound like a children’s bedtime story. Not to mention, the film took 10 years to complete, amidst fires, floods and numerous other disasters. It’s the kind of filmmaking we may never see again, and I applaud Olive Films and Alamo Drafthouse for bringing the film to screens again.”

Roar stars the real-life family, Tippi Hedren (The Birds), her daughter Melanie Griffith (Working Girl), Hedren’s husband, Noel Marshall (producer, The Exorcist), and his son John Marshall. A scientist (Noel) and his family believe they’ve found paradise in the bush country of East Africa until unrest develops among the region’s wildcats who do not take kindly to the new visitors.

The cast and crew endured countless injuries, with over 70 documented attacks including:

·      Cinematographer Jan de Bont (Speed) being scalped by a lion resulting in 220 stitches on his head.

·      Tippi Hedren endured a fractured leg and deep scalp wounds.

·      Melanie Griffith was mauled by a lion, resulting in stitches and surgery.

·      Noel Marshall was gored so many times that he was eventually hospitalized with gangrene.

To date, in addition to the English language rights to Olive Films, TomCat Films, and its prestige label, Summer Hill Films (http://www.summerhillfilms.com) have closed deals on ‘Roar’ with MGM TV in Germany, Cinetel Films in Spain, JY Entertainment in China and Platinum Cult DVD and BD in Germany.
