RALEIGH, N.C. - March 25, 2015 - PRLog -- Under the leadership of Penny Lauricella, Executive Director of Pretty In Pink Foundation (http://www.prettyinpinkfoundation.org/index.aspx), the Foundation has achieved several operational and financial milestones. At the Triangle Business Journal’s 2015 Healthcare Hero award ceremony, Lauricella was awarded the Community Outreach Hero’s award for her passion, contribution and commitment.

The Triangle Business Journal (TBJ) announced its list of 44 finalists in early February. Finalists were chosen from a pool of nominees whose applications were submitted online for consideration.

Lauricella was among the winner announced during the March 12th ceremony. She was profiled in a special section in the March 13th issue of the TBJ.

Lauricella admits that her role as Executive Director encompasses many hats. However, her chief responsibilities include driving the mission and message of Pretty In Pink Foundation, realizing critical financial objectives and providing the leadership and direction required to administer and manage the programs and services the Foundation provides throughout North Carolina.

“Breast cancer is a community issue, not a woman's issue”, remarks Lauricella, about the Foundation’s aggressive strategic plan, which includes having a point of presence in every state by 2020.

Lauricella says when she started with the Foundation in 2008, it consisted of five board members and her. They raised $46,000 to assist 14 patients. Today, the Foundation has grown to support more than 2,500 patients and they have raised more than $2.6 million for patients across North Carolina.

"Whether serving those in need or working on breakthrough innovations in health care, these honorees are changing people's lives," says Bryan Hamilton, publisher of Triangle Business Journal.

More than ninety percent of donations made to the Foundation directly fund medical treatments, life-saving surgeries, quality of life resources and support to help patients beat the breast cancer battle.
