BURNS HARBOR, Ind. - March 23, 2015 - PRLog -- Lake Shore Toyota is excited to announce that Toyota has put their hydrogen-fueled Mirai on display for the world at the 2015 First Hawaiian International Auto Show, giving drivers the first glimpse of the future of green driving.

Gasoline is on the way out and hybrid cars are slowly taking their place. Electric cars look like they are set to be the new hybrids when it comes to fuel efficiency, and while there are some automakers exploring natural gas, Toyota is moving to the next level: zero-emission hydrogen cars.

The Mirai takes compressed hydrogen gas, mixes it with oxygen, and then harvests the energy from that chemical reaction. Its only byproduct? Water vapor. It may sound like something out of science fiction, but it has been science fact in chemistry textbooks for decades—auto engineers are just now finding practical ways to implement this clean energy in cars.

The overall goal is for 2020 to be the year when hydrogen vehicles become far more commonplace than electric vehicles are now, and that takes a concerted effort on behalf of both automakers and the government to help encourage infrastructure like hydrogen fueling stations.

Unlike some of the initial electric cars, however, the Mirai is looking to be one of the most aerodynamic and stylish cars on the road—hydrogen-powered or not—thanks to designers at Toyota who have put form as high as function now that fuel economy has been taken care of.

No official release date has been set for the Mirai, but hydrogen car enthusiasts can rest assured that they will see the vehicle making the rounds at the auto shows in the near future with a production model eventually following for limited release markets.

To learn more about alternative fuel options like the Mirai, such as Toyota's incredible line of hybrid vehicles, readers can contact the sales team at Lake Shore Toyota. They stock the full lineup of new Toyota vehicles and a diverse selection of used cars, and their showroom can be found open six days a week at 244 Melton Rd in Burns Harbor.
