Save Time, Money, and Your Sanity When Moving

MEDFIELD, Mass. - March 19, 2015 - PRLog -- Let's face it; moving can be stressful, expensive, and time consuming. Although it is definitely exciting to move into a brand new home, the process and other checkpoints can seem daunting. However, if you are prepared for a move, you can save money, time, and have a much more enjoyable experience. Here are some ways that you can prepare yourself and/or your family for the big event:

The first step!

Create a budget. Before you even pack a box, you'll need to consider all of the expenses that revolve around a move. Be thorough and realistic when creating the budget, so that you don't forget anything huge. Whether you're hiring professionals or going solo, there are plenty of expenses that you will incur. Here are just a few:

• Packing supplies

• Professional packers

• Professional moving companies

• Shipping costs

• Truck rentals

• Insurance

• Fuel costs or flights

• Fees to move pets

Organization is key when it comes to moving, and the more you plan the better off you'll be. Cutting out unnecessary steps will save you valuable time, and knowing your expenses beforehand can allow you to save and to not be blindsided by costs.

Decision Time

Before you move you will have to decide if you are better off working by yourself or if you would benefit from hiring professionals. If you are a very organized and "do-it-yourself" person, moving yourself may be the best option. If you are feeling overwhelmed or scattered hiring professionals can help ease your stress about the situation. Professionals will give you piece of mind that your stuff is being transported safely and on time.  You may also want to do both – it may be smart to move easier items by yourself and save fragile or valuable items for the professionals.

Clean up to save time

Clearing up your home of any nonessential items can significantly lower the burden of moving. You can sort your household items into piles of keep, donate, and sell to get more organized, and you can even have a quick yard sale before the move. Trimming yourself of any unnecessary items can lower the burden on yourself (literally).

Keep Saving!

There are plenty of companies out there that have free boxes just lying around, waiting to be used! Instead of going out and buying packing boxes, go on a search around town for free, sturdy boxes. You can also use newspapers, or paper grocery bags to cushion items in boxes rather than splurging on expensive packing supplies.

If you have any close friends or family nearby, try recruiting them for the big move! It also won't hurt to reward them with some sort of meal or treat as an incentive. Most likely they will be happy to help and you can bond in the process! You can also ask around the neighborhood if any high school kids are looking for some quick cash to help you move.

Moving doesn't have to be a nightmare – consider these tips before you hit the road to your dream home. Before you know it the stress of moving will be behind you, and you'll be all moved in – enjoying your new home!
