Rochester, New York – Camp Good Days and Special Times inducted Campground Owners of New York (CONY) into its Ring of Honor at A Night of Gratitude dinner and ceremony, held February 27th at the Rochester Plaza Hotel, downtown Rochester, N.Y. CONY was among 23 inductees into the Ring of Honor, established in 2004 to recognize individuals and organizations for their outstanding dedication, commitment and support of the thousands of children and families served by Camp Good Days and Special Times over the years.

Ring of Honor inductees names will be included in the permanent Ring of Honor display, which is located at the Camp Good Days’ Recreation Facility, located in Branchport, N.Y. for all to see.

Camp Good Days and Special Times is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, adults and families whose lives have been touched by cancer and other life threatening challenges. It was founded by Gary Mervis in 1979, following the diagnosis of his youngest daughter, Teddi, with a malignant brain tumor.

What was started to provide Teddi and 62 other children with cancer (from Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse) with a residential camping experience, has grown to become one of the largest organizations of its kind, having served as a model for other organizations and cancer treatment centers around the world. Providing residential camping programs on the shores of Keuka Lake in New York’s scenic Finger Lakes Region, as well year-round recreational and support activities and events, Camp Good Days has served more than 45,000 campers from 22 states and 29 foreign countries.

CONY, its campgrounds and campers began raising funds in support of Camp Good Days and Special Times in 2012, at the suggestion of CONY board of director member Matt Anderson, whose family operates Camp Chautauqua in Stow, N.Y. Since then, CONY has raised over $150,000 in donations through special events, sales, and change collection jars. The CONY board of directors recently voted to designate Camp Good Days and Special Times as the association’s official primary charity for the foreseeable future.

Anderson was on hand for CONY’s induction into the Ring of Honor, along with CONY board of directors chairman Gregg Nicholls of Lake Bluff Campground in Wolcott, N.Y., and CONY’s President and CEO Donald G. Bennett, Jr.

“We were thrilled to accept this accolade on behalf of the enthusiastic campgrounds and their campers who have given their time and money to benefit Camp Good Days,” Bennett said after the event. “We’ve been inspired and amazed at the support generated over the past three years, and we look forward to doing even more going forward.”
