DALLAS - March 18, 2015 - PRLog -- Dallas, TX. March 17, 2015 – In Dallas County, an estimated 14,000 people are living with HIV/AIDS, which represents a 39 percent increase over the past eight years. New cases of HIV/AIDS are being seen in the 13 to 18 year age group, accounting for 3.9 percent of new diagnoses in all age groups.

Today in Commissioner’s Court, Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price presented a resolution to AIDS Walk South Dallas supporting our goal to inspire, educate and galvanize the community of South Dallas and surrounding areas to continue to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS and assist those impacted.

On Saturday, March 21, 2015 AIDS Walk South Dallas will celebrate 5 years with a 5K walk/run at St. Phillips School and Community Center, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75215. The walk starts at 10AM and registration can be done on-site at the walk beginning at 8AM or in advance online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/aids-walk-south-dallas-2015-tickets-11887763621.

Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS) continues to support HIV/AIDS awareness and encourages citizens to do the same.

“We support AIDS Walk South Dallas, which aims to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS in our communities,” said Zachary Thompson, DCHHS Director. “This walk and other events will help connect our citizens to openly communicate and eliminate stigmas associated with HIV and AIDS.”

“The support we receive from the community shows a shared commitment and true passion to have an effect on the lives of people impacted by HIV and AIDS, and it’s much appreciated,” said Auntjuan Wiley, AWSD Founder and Chair.

Funds raised will benefit AIDS Interfaith Network, a 26-year old HIV/AIDS service organization that works to prevent the spread of HIV and serves persons living with HIV/AIDS and other vulnerable populations  as well as benefit Black Transmen, Inc., the first social change organization of African-American transmen focused on HIV/AIDS prevention, acknowledgement, social advocacy and empowering transmen nationally.
