Monterey Symphony Announces Ethereal Skies Concert:

March 20-22, 2015

MONTEREY, CA (February 2015) Single tickets now on sale for the Monterey Symphony’s fourth concert of its 69th Season, Ethereal Skies! The Monterey Symphony presents Icelandic violinist Judith Ingolfsson as she performs Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D Major. The Monterey Symphony takes inspiration from the Aurora Borealis in this concert that is epical in its presentation of exoticism, lost fortune and the serenity of the northern skies. The concert begins with Carl Maria von Weber’s Turkish-inspired Abu Hassan Overture. Based on a story from One Thousand and One Nights, this comic opera revels in the intrigue of the Caliph’s palace, unrequited love, and lost fortune. The northern lights return in the magnificent Symphony No. 5 in E-flat Major by Sibelius, celebrating the composer’s 50th birthday! Considered by many to be a master symphonist, Sibelius’ work begins with gentle serenity and builds to a dramatic climax.

The 69th season of the Monterey Symphony continues into Spring 2015 with a brilliant range of classical performances sure to impress you! International guest artists will perform colorful works with the Monterey Symphony orchestra on the stages of Sherwood Hall in Salinas and Sunset Center in Carmel-by-the-Sea.  Celebrate this colorful season with the Monterey Symphony, along with the 10th Anniversary of Music Director and Conductor Max Bragado-Darman.
