Local Auto Body Shop leads national fight for consumer safety

PHILADELPHIA - March 17, 2015 - PRLog -- Local Auto Body Shop leads national fight against insurance companies.

On February 1th, CNN ran a story about the practices of insurance companies to direct customers to “Select

Service” shops, although customers are free to choose their own repair shops.
This issue is something that Nigro’s Auto Body has been working for years to address.
Most consumers don’t know their rights, and choose the repair shop based on where their insurance companysteers them.

Domenic Nigro has made the cause his personal mission and asks passionately, "Are you aware you can choose any repair shop you want? That the shops your insurance company directs you to has contracted with the insurance company (in return for sending them your business) to do the least expensive repairs and save the insurance company money on your repairs."

Any shop that your insurance company directs you to is working for the insurance company, not you. And their preferred providers will promise them to do work faster, and cut corners that may jeopardize your safety! If work isn’t done in the allotted time the repair shop must pay for the customer’s rental car. The exchange is this, in return for directing customers to a preferred shop. The shop is guaranteed business, but they must agree to terms that put them at odds with the customer; rushing through jobs, using sub-par replacement parts and doing everything they can to save money to make up for the huge discounts they are forced to offer the insurance company.

Nigro’s Auto Body has been working with state and city officials to change these practices, to create a system of licensing for body shops; anyone can work on your car! A beautician who cuts your hair must be licensed but the person who works on making your car safe to drive does not!

We want drivers to have confidence that the work being done on their vehicles is safe, and done by a skilled technician. We want you to know your rights, and to join us in demanding better consumer protections for you and the car you put your family in every day.
