Dave Hobrecht Creating Huge, Epic Painting for Boxing Champ, Floyd Mayweather

Renowned black and white sports artist to unveil large-scale original art at the MGM Grand in Vegas during Mayweather and Pacquiao Fight Week
March 12, 2015 - PRLog -- World-renowned black and white sports artist, Dave Hobrecht, has been commissioned by Mayweather Promotions to create a large-scale custom painting for undefeated welterweight boxing champion, Floyd Mayweather to be unveiled and displayed at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino during the Fight Week ramp up to the long-awaited Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao title bout May 2 in Las Vegas.

When completed and framed, the huge panoramic artwork will measure a monumental 15-feet long and 5-feet tall. The career-spanning piece will portray Mayweather’s legendary ascent through the fight ranks, from Golden Gloves through his illustrious, unblemished professional boxing career and title belts, as well as incorporate a variety of game-used items from the Champ’s Las Vegas gym.

“This painting is three-times larger than the biggest piece I’ve ever created,” Hobrecht announced. “That’s fitting because this is the Fight of the Century, maybe the biggest boxing match ever, and the Champ deserves an epic-scale, monumental work of art.”

To create this dynamic, panoramic black and white original painting of the Champ’s career, Hobrecht will employ his signature mixed charcoal and pastel media and the exclusive dry brush application method that he developed, perfected and has employed in original paintings for such legendary athletes as Derek Jeter, Oscar De La Hoya, Tony Hawk, Bill Walton, Cal Ripken, Jr., Barry Larkin, and John Elway to name a few.

During a recent visit to Mayweather’s gym, Hobrecht acquired various game-used items to incorporate inventively into the painting, hidden in plain sight, including a jump rope, ring mats, corner post covers, rope straps, heavy bags, and speed bags. (Visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTNccWbEEdY to see a video of acquisition of these items and the artist’s initial creative preparations for the piece.)

The currently untitled piece will be displayed in the lobby of the MGM Grand from April 27 through May 4. However, visitors can now catch a sneak peak and watch the artist paint live at Hobrecht Sports Art Gallery. The public can view images and videos documenting the painting’s progress and Hobrecht’s creative process from start to finish at https://www.hobrecht.com/ as well as on the artist’s social media accounts (Twitter @HOBRECHTART; Facebook at Hobrecht Sports Art; Instagram @hobrechtsportsart; Flickr at Floyd Mayweather by Dave Hobrecht; and YouTube at Hobrecht Sports Art).
