Capturing priceless moments on and off the camera -Actor Matthew Willson becomes a daddy-

TORONTO - March 12, 2015 - PRLog -- Three in the morning wake-up calls, smelly diapers, and having hordes of baby food in place of your 12-pack in the fridge. Ah the joys of fatherhood, but its all worth it when you look down at that smiling baby staring back-up at you asking for your swaddles of love. Just ask Matthew Willson, (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1079740/) stage and television actor, producer and most recently director of Paris Performer’s production of Love, Loss and What I Wore. I had the chance to speak with Matthew Willson just weeks after the birth of his baby boy, Thatcher, and he was elated with what the journey of fatherhood has in store for him.

With a desire to become a parent for quite sometime,  Matthew Willson first learned of the happy news during his time on stage playing “Ernest” on Hemingway and His Women.

“I was playing a guy with a litter of children,” says Willson. “I found it ironic because the role was so different in contrast to my own life; when I found out that my wife and I were expecting I was thrilled that this was finally happening - I was going to become a dad!”

Matthew Willson shared the news with his friends and family soon after and in the most creative way possible. At his birthday celebration early June, he gathered everyone to one spot and secretly recorded everyone’s reactions.

“I had set up a GoPro camera and everyone thought we were taking a photo, while both my wife’s family and mine were in one shot we broke the news,” Willson said. “Since we were actually recording we captured everyone’s reactions and it was priceless.”

With a unique view on pregnancy, Willson’s top four tips for being a great partner during the wild ride of gestation are:

Be patient and kind no matter what! (how would you like your body to be taken over by a new life form that is making you emotional, sick, tired and pudgy?)

Remember her hormones are a- changin’’: as we learned in grade school, ‘Safety First!’  Pregnancy is a wild ride and you, willing or not, are strapped in and locked down for the entire trip. Hang in there - it’s worth it.

Pregnancy is sexy. My wife was a mother from the moment we found out she was expecting. From researching what to eat to continuing her workout regime right up to her delivery date, she took great care to make sure our baby had the best possible start in life. Taking control of her body and embracing her ‘bump’ - all the while in 4-inch heels, took her gorgeousness to a whole other level in my books.

Brace yourself for ‘the day’. Labour and delivery was no joke - if this feat of strength, grit and determination doesn’t impress you, nothing will. I could cry right now just thinking about it (alright, I AM crying right now thinking about it … but what can I say? I’m a cryer).

Matthew Willson looks forward to spending as much time as he possibly can with his little boy, not as just a father but as a mentor, friend and someone he can find help and support with throughout his life.

“I’d like to teach and guide him, of course I don’t want to be a helicopter parent and hover around him all the time,” says Matthew Wilson. “Right now all I want to do is love and protect him.”

Matthew Willson’s credentials include over 400 stage performances and roles on Canadian shows such as Rookie Blue and Murdoch Mysteries. He continues to act, produce and direct several television and theatre projects keeping him busy along with his latest gig - fatherhood. His future message to his son would be to,

“Be kind, be patient, learn every and anything you can, because a really smart man would learn not only from his mistakes but from other people’s mistakes as well. And to of course win an academy award one day.”

That seems reasonable to me.
