| ![]() China MIIT Announces RoHS Labeling Standard SJ/T 11364-2014 Deferred and Scope ExpandedOn 30 December 2014, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of China announced that the new labeling standard SJ/T 11364-2014 is deferred from taking effect and SJ/T 11364-2006 is still valid.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of China issued standard SJ/T 11364-2014 “Marking for the Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Product” on 9 July 2014 (1). This new standard was scheduled to take effect from 1 January 2015 and to repeal the old standard SJ/T 11364-2006. Scope Expanded to All Electrical and Electronic Products Compared to the 2006 edition the updated standard expands the product scope from EIPs (electric information products) to all EEPs (electric and electronic products), and makes some revision of the label and the declaration table of the hazardous substances existing in the product. A more in depth comparison is given in the previous SGS SafeGuardS bulletin N# 198/14 (2). China RoHS Update Still under Discussion Because the update of China RoHS (Administrative Measure on the Control of Pollution Caused by Electronic Information Products) (3) is still under discussion (4), MIIT decided to postpone the enforcement of SJ/T 11364-2014. In other words, SJ/T 11364-2006 is still valid until further official announcement. However, and according to the official information, it is also acceptable if a company has already implemented requirements as outlined by SJ/T 11364-2014 before 1 January 2015.
