Scandinavian Designed Electric Bicycles Enter the U.S Market

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - March 11, 2015 - PRLog -- March 11, 2015 – SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – Bicycle technology startup Blix Bicycle introduces six new models of electric bicycles that aim to attract a broad range of bicycle commuters throughout the country.

Blix, based out of Santa Cruz, CA, is working with suppliers who have been providing the Scandinavian market with electric bicycles since 2006. Developing affordable, user-friendly and well-designed electric commuter bicycles, Blix aims to appeal to the frequent commuter who is looking for smart and convenient transportation modes other than the car.

With classic looks inspired by vintage European design, quality components from well-known manufacturers, and a starting price at $1,590, Blix brings an interesting product offering to the bicycle market that can make the difference for many who consider purchasing an electric bicycle. Current available product lines include foldable, comfort and city style electric bicycles.

“There is a big and growing demand for electric bicycles in the U.S now”, Blix CEO Pontus Malmberg says. “Most people are looking for a reliable, commuter friendly and well-designed electric bike that cost around $2,000 or less, those are the people who buy a Blix bike.”

All Blix bikes come with a lithium-Ion battery that lasts up to 30 or 45 miles on one charge. It is located under the seat for a low center of gravity and better riding experience, and can easily be removed for convenient charging. The bikes also feature puncture resistant tires and front and rear mounted LED lights, supported directly from the battery.

A discrete and user-friendly control panel mounted on the steering gives the rider flexibility to control how you want the electric assist. You can choose between three levels of power assist, but also an automatic mode that uses a cadence sensor to determine how much assist you need based on which gear you are using. You can also use a throttle at any time for speeds up to 16 mph without paddling at all.

Malmberg believes the U.S bicycle market will see a big change in the next few years, with frequent city commuters turning to electric bicycles for smarter, faster and more convenient transportation.

“Bicycle commuting in the 70 largest cities in U.S has increased by more than 85% the past 10 years. It’s a combination of growing health awareness, increased traffic congestions and limited public transportation. But one of the reasons a lot of people don’t bike to work is because they don’t want to arrive tired and sweaty, people are looking for flexible and efficient transportation that still is convenient, that's when the electric assist comes in handy.”
