VITA: Voluntary Income Tax Assistance to be offered in Spanish

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - March 9, 2015 - PRLog -- Today Catholic Charities of West Tennessee (CCWTN) announced free, VITA (Voluntary Income Tax Assistance) events for Spanish speaking tax payers through its Immigration Services Department. The event is co-sponsored by Catholic Charities of West Tennessee, The United Way of the Mid-South, REGIONS® Bank, Rhodes College, Christian Brothers University and the University of Memphis.

The Spanish VITA events will be held on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, March 18^th and 19^th, 2015 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday March 21, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Binghampton Development Corporation, 280 Tillman St. Memphis TN 38112.

Trained, volunteer tax preparers will be on site along with Spanish/English speaking interpreters to assist in tax preparation. Potential tax payers are encouraged to visit www.ccwtn.org for a list materials that they will need to bring to have their taxes prepared and other information.

About VITA

The VITA Program generally offers free tax help to people who make $52,000 or less with children or $20,000 or less without children and need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals in local communities. They can inform taxpayers about special tax credits for which they may qualify such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled.
