PALM COAST, Fla. - April 19, 2015 - PRLog -- Dr. Bonnie Chalker has completed a Bausch + Lomb KeraSoft® IC Training course for patients with irregular corneas.

“The KeraSoft® IC contact lenses are for patients that have irregular corneas, including keratoconus, post laser refractive surgery, pellucid marginal degeneration, and other corneal irregularities,” stated Dr. Chalker. “Previously, these patients were not candidates for contact lenses, but this technology allows them to experience a comfortable contact lens along with better vision,” Dr. Chalker added.

The course contained five training modules. Some of the topics included instruction on how to initially select the right lens for a patient, fitting post surgical patient’s corneas such as corneal graft patients, how to fit complex natural Ectasias and more.

The Bausch + Lomb KeraSoft® IC lens is custom-made and can offer increased wear time and improved comfort. KeraSoft® IC lenses are a patented combination of the latest technologies in silicone hydrogel materials using geometries from complex mathematics to offer comfortable wear and excellent vision. Irregular corneas can be caused by a number of reasons including disease, trauma, corneal transplants and complicated laser surgery. Such patients can have considerably reduced vision that is not adequately addressed by standard contact lenses. Standard contact lenses and spectacles do not successfully address the complexities of an eye with an irregular cornea or keratoconus. Traditionally, patients with irregular corneas have been limited to gas permeable lenses which resulted in reduced wearing time for some patients.
