Blow Struck Against Modern Day Slavery by United for Human Rights & the Florida Coalition Against

A successful fundraiser will go far to help the victims of human trafficking.

CLEARWATER, Fla. - March 6, 2015 - PRLog -- This week, the Florida Chapter of United for Human Rights (UHR) presented the Florida Coalition Against Human Trafficking (FCAHT) with their half of the proceeds from a National Freedom Day Celebration held at Clearwater’s Fort Harrison. The presentation was done at the Florida Coalition’s office in Clearwater.

The funds raised from the event will assist victims of human trafficking as well as providing educational programs focusing on Human Rights and raising awareness on modern-day slavery.

FCAHT has been actively involved in rescuing trafficking victims since its founding in 2004. UHR provides the largest non-governmental human rights education program, based on the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. These two groups have teamed up over the years to raise awareness of human trafficking.

The National Freedom Day, held earlier this month was the most recent event co-hosted by UHR and FCAHT.

UHR President Gracia Bennish was the mistress of ceremonies.  As a part of her presentation, she showed the “Human Right Number 4 – No Slavery” public service announcement. Giselle Rodriguez from the Florida Coalition Against Human Trafficking then spoke, giving examples illustrating that this is a very real problem in Florida, including the Tampa Bay area.  Guests were given copies of the educational materials used by UHR and were encouraged to take action to improve human rights in our own local environment.

Ms. Bennish later added, “In looking at the state of the world, and seeing the abuses levied against mankind, humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard looked to the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights as the solution. UHR uses this document and the PSAs and documentary based on it, to educate people on what their basic rights are.”

FCAHT founder, Anna Rodriguez, said that when victims of human trafficking are rescued, a host of problems and issues follow them.

As a report by the US Department of Health and Human Services stated “Trafficking victims may suffer from an array of physical and psychological health issues stemming from inhumane living conditions, poor sanitation, inadequate nutrition, poor personal hygiene, brutal physical and emotional attacks at the hands of their traffickers, dangerous workplace conditions, occupational hazards and general lack of quality health care.”

Groups like FCAHT help clients get the health care they need and be re-acclimated to their lives before they were enslaved. The funds raised will go to fund the services required by those who fell victim to human traffickers.
