| ![]() An Exposure Visit Organized Recently for the Mentally Disabled WomenAn exposure visit to Nicco Park for the mentally disabled women was organized by Asha Bhavan Centre on February 18, 2015. The inmates were quite excited and thrilled to avail the different joy rides and had a wonderful day tour.
Thirty-five inmates visited Nicco Park with proper guidance and care of eleven caregivers and support staffs. The inmates were quite excited and thrilled to avail the different joy rides such as horse ride, toy train, ropeway, boating and river cave ride. Nutritious tiffin as well as lunch with soft drinks was given to all the support staffs and the inmates. The participants enjoyed the tour quite a lot and came back to their shelter with a charming experience. When asked one of the inmates regarding her experience at Nicco Park, she said that she had a lot of fun. Although she was feeling a bit scared first, she enjoyed riding on the ropeway the most. Asha Bhavan Centre is an NGO that provides comprehensive rehabilitation services to the mentally ill women. It has set up the DL home for these kinds of women in 2001 to offer residential care as well as cure support with vocational training and counseling. The DL home now has sixty mentally ill women. These mentally ill women who stay at the DL home are provided with medium and short term occupational and psychosocial therapy. Asha Bhavan Centre's main aim is to extend rehabilitation support to these poor rural women and to provide education to the rural people on mental disability. The NGO mainly works keeping in mind the concept that they initiated in 1999-community based rehabilitation in India.
