Land Management and Sharing the Responsibility with Insight

Insight™ by CloverPoint is a system for maintaining records to aid in land title and facilities management. We look closer at Insight as a solution for managers needing to make responsible land use decisions

VICTORIA, British Columbia - March 4, 2015 - PRLog -- Land management used to be a fairly simple process- the king (or some other individual with a fancy title) owned all the land and made all of the decisions about its use. Over time this has changed, to the point where multiple groups are now responsible for managing activities as diverse as farming, mineral extraction, and urban planning in order to build a sustainable future.

One of the biggest shifts in recent years has seen more First Nations in Canada taking an active role in managing the lands within their traditional territories. Here in our small corner of the globe, British Columbia, bands like the Squamish Nation are actively participating in numerous negotiations with the Federal government, industry, and other stakeholders over how land within their traditional territory is used. The Nisga’a Nation has gone one step further in directly managing titles and tenures in their own land title registry. Other nations, like the Malahat, are actively working towards developing the tools necessary to make their own land use decisions. Each of these groups recognizes the role that technology plays in helping them to pan and monitor how their lands are used. Universities have also started to recognize the benefits of applying technology to their land and space use challenges. From 3D virtualization to dynamic allotment of building space, today’s software solutions enable decision makers to act faster.

On a global scale, a recent report commissioned by the United Nations (http://www.undatarevolution.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/1...) emphasizes the importance of technology in sustainable development: “Data are the lifeblood of decision-making and the raw material for accountability. Without high-quality data providing the right information on the right things at the right time; designing, monitoring and evaluating effective policies becomes almost impossible.“

We like to think that Insight (http://cloverpoint.com/insight/)™ is in some small way helping to fill the gap between technology and effective and sustainable management of land, and everything on it. At CloverPoint we recognize and understand the needs of First Nations groups to have access to tools and data that enable them to manage their lands and the subsequent development and/or access to these lands and traditional territories – The solution is Insight™ by CloverPoint.
