The Office of the Nassau County Comptroller under the leadership of George Maragos, Comptroller presented its Black History Month Celebration at the African American Museum, located at 110 North Franklin Street, Hempstead, New York 11550. The program included the participation of ten children who introduced the community to ten African Americans who were the first to pioneer in their occupation or professional endeavors, (e.g.) the First Black Governor, Mayor, Councilwomen, Police Officer, etc. The Nassau County Comptroller’ AUDELCO "Rising Star Award Recipient" also supported Queens County Assemblyman William Scarborough on February 27, 2015, as he presented a Black History Month Celebration themed “Continuing the Legacy” as he honored, Dr. Julius Garvey, Son of Marcus Garvey, Ilyasah Shabazz, Daughter of Malcolm X, Thelonious Sphere Monk, III, Son of Thelonious Sphere Monk, and Dominique Sharpton & Ashley Sharpton, Daughters of Reverand Al Sharpton. Special Performances were presented in honor of each honoree. Colby Christina Audelco Award Winning Actress, Dancer, Singer, Model, and Motivational Speaker performed saluting the honorees before a capacity crowd at the Southern Queens Park Association located at Roy Wilkins Family Center, Jamaica, New York, 11434.
