Follow on Google News | ![]() Hemp Sports Car to Tour the Country"Hemp can be used to make as much as 75% of the components in vehicles. The net reduction in the CO2 from the manufacturing process is enormous." Bruce Dietzen, CEO, Renew Sports Cars
Hemp is of course, already being used by numerous other car manufacturers to make interior door panels, but Renew has upped the ante. Fabrication of their bodies from carbon negative hemp instead of carbon fiber, steel or fiberglass has allowed Renew to dramatically reduce the CO2 normally created during manufacturing, which according to the Ricardo Study of 2011, is a whopping 23-46% of a vehicle’s lifetime carbon footprint. Renew’s plan, going forward, is to make everything possible from hemp. And the reasoning behind this strategy is all about being greener. Hemp while growing, absorbs more CO2, and creates some of the strongest fibers of any plant known to man. By making durable goods like cars from hemp, all that CO2 is removed or “sequestered” “Electric cars today are helping the environment by reducing operating emissions, while cars made from hemp in the near future, could make a comparable contribution toward helping the environment simply by reducing manufacturing emissions. It wouldn’t surprise me at all, given peak oil, the “gold rush” that’s taking place now in the domestic production of hemp, and ever increasing concern about the climate crisis, that most new cars will be electric, and made primarily from hemp by 2025. Those companies that aggressively adopt emerging hemp manufacturing technologies today, will have a strategic advantage tomorrow.” Details regarding Renew’s nationwide tour can be found by searching Hemp Sports Car on Indiegogo or visiting https://www.indiegogo.com/ Just don’t ask that burning question “Can I smoke it?” They get that one all the time.
