CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Feb. 28, 2015 - PRLog -- Flutist Peter H. Bloom, known for his virtuosity and versatility, will perform with the hip, energetic and entertaining FiLmprov ensemble on Thursday March 5 at 7:30 pm, at MIT’s Killian Hall, 160 Memorial Drive, Cambridge, MA.  Free admission.  Information: 617 776 8778.  March 5 is a new date for the performance originally scheduled for February 11, which was postponed due to weather.

FiLmprov blends live musical improvisation by members of the internationally acclaimed Aardvark Jazz Orchestra with the stellar animated films of Kate Matson. The show will feature the world premiere of Matson’s Cha, Cha, Cha! – a visual celebration of ripped, cut, folded, crumpled, flipping, flopping, flying paper on film.  FiLmprov members are Kate Matson; filmmaker, Mark Harvey, trumpet and music director; Peter H. Bloom, flutes/woodwinds; Phil Scarff, sopranino saxophone/woodwinds; Bill Lowe, trombone/tuba; John Funkhouser, piano and string bass; and Harry Wellott percussion.

Peter H. Bloom, whose playing has been called “a revelation for unforced sweetness and strength” (The Boston Globe), concertizes in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand; is featured on more than 40 recordings (Sony Classical, Dorian, Leo Records, other labels); and is a winner of the American Musicological Society’s Noah Greenberg Award.  His career encompasses chamber music from the Renaissance to the 21stcentury, as well as exploratory jazz, standards, blues, and bebop.  Jazz Improv praised “the exquisite melody, lovingly caressed by Peter Bloom's lead flute, the combination of flutes and strings fitting the mood perfectly, and the improvisation growing organically out of the theme."

Mr. Bloom will serve as faculty member at the Snow Pond Composers Workshop June 7 through 13, 2015, working with composition students exploring new music for flute, alto flute, bass flute and piccolo. http://snowpondmusicfestival.com/programs/snow-pond-composers-workshop/
