March 1, 2015 - PRLog -- Experts say that couples that are trying to conceive and are unsuccessful should consult a fertility specialist after 6 months. There are some silent but treatable medical conditions that could be too blame, like endometriosis. March is National Endometriosis Awareness Month.  States Dr. Stephanie Singleton of The Fertility Center of Charleston, “Endometriosis is a gynecological condition that affects women during their reproductive years.  Women can go undiagnosed with endometriosis until they try to conceive unsuccessfully. ”

Endometriosis affects more than 5 million women.   There are some physical symptoms of endometriosis such as pelvic pain, cramping, heavy menstrual cycles and infertility.  Once diagnosed, there are treatment options available.  Dr. Singleton explains, “If we determine through an initial consult that a woman does indeed have endometriosis, there are several treatment options available to her including medical treatment, IUI, and laparoscopy.”  She states, “We treat patients with endometriosis often.   Once we know that this condition is causing infertility, we immediately begin treatment and start the fertility process.  Often times the diagnosis and treatment then clears the way for a couple to conceive.”

The Fertility Center of Charleston is located in Mt. Pleasant.  They provide fertility services including in-vitro fertilization, IUI, and egg freezing.  To schedule an appointment, call 843-881-7400 or www.fertilitycharleston.com.
