Ferguson, Missouri Meat Market Receives Renovation Assistance

By: Paul's Market

FERGUSON, Mo. - Feb. 26, 2015 - PRLog -- Hussmann®, the St. Louis-based manufacturer of commercial display cases and refrigeration systems, has offered to assist Paul’s Market with a much needed upgrade – an energy efficient meat display case to replace current assets that are 38-years-old.

This assistance comes in response to a plea for help from Paul’s Market owner Gary Crump following months of declining sales due to a challenging local business environment.

Located at 1020 North Elizabeth Avenue in Ferguson, Mo. since 1960, Paul’s Market has seen its share of customers come and go. But in the wake of Michael Brown’s death on August 9, 2014 and the continued unrest, public perception of Ferguson plummeted and business at the meat market and grocery has suffered.

“I’d say we were down a third in sales,” said Crump. “Things got better around the holidays but it was still pretty bad. People who had come to the market for years weren’t coming in.”

To show his support for the community that had patronized his business for 55 years and to prove that Paul’s Market is in Ferguson to stay, in December Crump began making plans to renovate. Seeing that he couldn’t financially manage the necessary upgrades on his own, Crump sent out a plea to contractors and commercial kitchen suppliers in the region for assistance.

Within weeks, officials at Hussmann answered the call, offering to work with Crump so that he would be able to purchase a new SSGVE straight glass display case with gravity coil, to replace his existing service meat display cases.

“The issues in Ferguson have affected many people and businesses in the area. We have several employees or their families that live in Ferguson, and we definitely consider Ferguson as part of our extended Hussmann community so we are very happy that we were able to help improve the shoppers’ experience at Paul’s Market,” said Dennis Gipson, Hussmann president and CEO.

Crump said he hopes to have the new meat display case installed in March. He is still working to find assistance to replace the current eight-foot sections of fluorescent lighting in the market.

Paul’s Market is open 8am-7pm, Monday-Friday, 8am-6pm on Saturday. Closed on Sunday. For more information, visit paulsmarketdeli.com or call 314-524-3652.
