Community Christian Choir Donates $2,200 in Concert Proceeds to Interfaith Caregivers

Funds will help provide free caregiving services to hundreds of County seniors and people with disabilities.
 
HAMILTON, N.J. - Feb. 24, 2015 - PRLog -- The Community Christian Choir has donated $2,200 collected at its 20th Anniversary Concert in January to local nonprofit Interfaith Caregivers of Greater Mercer County (ICGMC), which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2014. The free event, held at Villa Victoria Academy in Ewing, featured many Christian Choir alumni, including three who have gone on to become professional musicians -- Baritone Michael Maliakel, a professional singer and voice teacher based in New York City; Soprano Joanna Latini, a senior vocal performance major at Carnegie Mellon University;and Michael Bernabe, a professional musician.

ICGMC Executive Director Jane Latini states, “We are so grateful for the support of the Christian Choir, who, like Interfaith Caregivers, brings joy, hope and love to our community. “

ICGMC will use the funds to cover the costs associated with provided free caregiving services to over 400 homebound senior citizens and people with disabilities throughout Mercer County.

With more than 350 active volunteers from 28 interdenominational congregations, ICGMC reaches all corners of the County, providing services such as transportation to doctors’ offices, grocery shopping, friendly visiting, respite care, light housekeeping, telephone reassurance, occasional meal preparation, indoor/outdoor chores, minor home repairs and other non-medical help. With Census data indicating that seniors aged 65+ are the fastest-growing age cohort in Mercer County, ICGMC is building its capacity to meet the needs of the community.

About Interfaith Caregivers of Greater Mercer County

Located on Quakerbridge Road in Hamilton, Interfaith Caregivers of Greater Mercer County coordinates transportation to doctors’ offices, shopping, friendly visiting, light housekeeping and maintenance, telephone reassurance and occasional meal preparation for homebound seniors and people with disabilities. Such basic services often enable care receivers to age in their homes independently, safely and with dignity, and thereby avoid institutionalization. Its mission is to promote the independence and dignity of homebound elderly and people with disabilities by matching them with caring volunteers who assist with the tasks of everyday life. About the Community Christian Choir

The Community Christian Choir is a nonprofit, ecumenical choir with vocalists from more than 45 area churches. Both adult and children’s choirs are comprised of singers of a variety of skill levels. The children’s choir has divisions for ages Kindergarten and up. Singers are placed according to experience and ability. The adult choir ranges in age from 9th grade students to senior citizens.
