Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance Announces Two New Physicians

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Feb. 23, 2015 - PRLog -- Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance (“TOA”) proudly announces the addition of Dr. Paul W. Grutter and Dr. Damon H. Petty to our practice.

Dr. Paul W. Grutter is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon with fellowship training in Shoulder and Elbow surgery from Johns Hopkins and subspecialty certification in Sports Medicine. Dr. Grutter also specializes in shoulder and joint replacement, knee surgery, and fracture care.

Dr. Grutter received his bachelor’s degree from Truman State University where he played college football.  During his senior season he was an All-American inside linebacker and the team captain for the team which finished ranked 9th in NCAA Division II. Dr. Grutter received his medical degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia.  He completed a five-year orthopaedic surgery residency at Detroit Medical Center/ Wayne State University where he received national awards for his research in upper extremity disorders.

Dr. Grutter served in the United States Air Force as a practicing orthopaedic surgeon. He also served in the US Army in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom.  Dr. Grutter received numerous decorations during his military service and is one of few individuals to receive both the Army Commendation Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal.

Dr. Damon H. Petty is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon, Fellowship Trained in Sports Medicine. He received his bachelor’s degree with honors from Harvard University and his medical degree from the University of Virginia. Dr. Petty performed his 5-year orthopaedic surgery residency training at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, followed by a Sports Medicine Fellowship with Drs. James R. Andrews and William Clancy in Birmingham, Alabama.

Dr. Petty joins TOA after successfully establishing his own private practice, Petty Orthopedics, which he operated for 12 years. He is nationally recognized for his expertise in minimally invasive shoulder surgery and reconstruction of the Ulnar Collateral Ligament. He has written and published papers for the American Journal of Sports Medicine on elbow and shoulder injuries in throwing athletes and is widely recognized as “Nashville’s Baseball Doctor.”

Dr. Petty currently serves as team physician for Cumberland University and Trevecca Nazarene University. Dr. Petty is the former team physician for the Nashville Sounds, serving with them through the end of their affiliation with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was also team physician for the Tennessee Diamonds Fastpitch Softball when they were located in Nashville during the 2010 season as well as the Nashville Metros Soccer Club. He has treated players from multiple Major League Baseball organizations including the NY Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates, Tampa Bay Rays, and the Kansas City Royals.

Dr. Grutter is now accepting patients at TOA office locations in Gallatin, Hendersonville and Skyline Medical Center.

Dr. Petty will continue to see patients at his previous practice locations in Nashville near St. Thomas Midtown Hospital and on West Main Street in Lebanon.
