"I WAS CHARGED BY RCMP WITH ASSAULT FOR DEFENDING MYSELF AGAINST MY ATTACKERS! Below is a copy of the email sent to RCMP Investigating Officer after other officers came to my home to charge me for fighting back against my attackers. I AM IN SHOCK! The RCMP have not taken an "Official Statement" from me yet so I emailed them the following statement. They took a general / brief statement at the scene.

It came as a real shock when I was charged with assaulting that guy. I was walking when he approached me with a weapon. I thought he was going to walk past me as I did not even know him. Instead he swung the weapon at me and after he struck me the first time, I defended my self with restraint. I got him pinned to the ground and he was on top of the weapon (either pipe or nun-chucks not exactly sure which of those it was). I got the weapon from him after some struggle with me holding him on the ground. I told him that I would let him up as I did not wish to hurt him and I did not know why he was attacking me. Since he did not have the weapon any long ( i had gotten it from him and tossed it under a nearby vehicle). I let him up and walked one way and he walked the other.

Moments later he was back with friends walking towards me so I phoned my friends as I was on the way to meet up with them. We had been walking from the direction of Gateway Skytrain and decided to catch a cab. With the cab being small and being close to Scott's house, I said I would walk due to space in the cab and the close proximity of his house.

Regardless, I told them I was just attacked by one guy and now he was coming behind me with others. I placed my phone back into my inside jacket pocket. Then I recall someone hitting me and falling to the road. Things are very blurry from there. I remember laying on the road as I was being kicked and stomped by several guys. I was trying to block all of the kicks and stomps and went unconscious. I heard one of the guys saying "that's enough" and although blurry, could tell they were starting to back away from me. Then I must have went unconscious again as I remember regaining consciousness and being all wet on the road. I do not know how much or little time passed there. I was able to get up and walked away from the direction the went. I was stumbling, dizzy and confused and fell down on some grass and woke up and called 9-1-1 for help. It is still blurry but these are the facts I recall. I recall at some point being in the back of a police car waiting for the ambulance and then remember being in the ambulance going to the hospital.

The hospital did x-rays and treatments. I have to go back on Friday for more x-rays and to replace cast of right forearm as a result of the attack. I am going to attach some photos of some of the injuries but will list them here as well.

Face - Severe bruising and minor scratches, severe bruising around right eye and broken blood vessels in right eye ball.

Head - Severe bruising, concussion, cuts and scrapes to sides and back of head

Upper chest, shoulders, ribs, upper and lower back - Severe Bruising

Arms, Fractured forearm & Wrist (right) bruises, cuts and scrapes

Groin and Buttocks - Bruising and minor cuts and scrapes

Legs - Bruising, cuts and scrapes

Ankle & Foot (left) cuts and bruising

As for assaulting them, I am in poor health and only did what I could to protect and defend myself. I have respiratory illnesses, damaged Left knee that I had surgery on in mid 2014 and it was re-injured before it healed fully so I am still under treatment for severe knee damage and am in the hospital again this week for the ongoing treatment with my surgeon for an MRI & Dye injections as part of the ongoing diagnosis and hopefully treatment. It very much restricts my mobility for anything more than walking. I sure would not be out attacking and fighting with anyone, let alone several guys.

If someone was to ask me if there was a bright side to this, I would say, "Yes" in a strange way. In that there was recently a local tragedy and it gave me time to volunteer and assist the victims of the condo building fire in Coquitlam. I may have been dealing with a great deal of pain and when I get home from volunteering, I can barely move but I feel reassured that people are great. It restored my confidence in people overall to see hundreds of people come out to donate items (est 30,000 lbs) for the fire victims. With ongoing recovery of the arm, back, head, hips and legs, my physical assistance was limited but I was surrounded by so many others whom volunteered to help, I felt so proud of the community of Coquitlam. As I am unable to do my regular work and do many other things, this will help get me through it and I am happy to help all of the victims of the fire. We must not allow the evil to destroy the good in each of us.
