LEGACY FAMILY COURT SEEKS APPLICANTS FOR BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Qualified Applicants May Now Apply For Board Of Directors Positions With The Legacy Family Court Foundation Until March 1

Legacy Family Court is Dallas County’s newest drug treatment court, providing an intensive, collaborative effort to support parents and children who have entered the Department of Families and Protective Services (CPS) system, due to drug or alcohol abuse/addiction.

The current board is accepting applications through March 1, 2015. Board members meet to report on LFC fundraising and operations, as well as to vote on official business. Board members are lawyers and business professionals who leverage their leadership positions in their communities to increase awareness and participation in the program and 501(c)3 foundation.

The Legacy Family Court is successfully reuniting Dallas families. “It is the result of work by Judge Tena Callahan of the 302nd Family District Court and her associate judge, Christine Collie.” Dallas County to start drug court focused on keeping families together (http://www.dallasnews.com/news/crime/headlines/20111116-d...). Dallas Morning News.

In the Legacy Family Court program, substance-addicted parents who have had a child removed by CPS remain in treatment for extended periods, under close supervision of the court, treatment providers, CPS, counselors and numerous other service providers. Participation in the Legacy Family Court program is voluntary, and participating parents must remain committed to meeting their obligations to themselves, their children and families, and their community. Participants are frequently and randomly drug tested, required to appear frequently in court for the presiding judge to review their progress, and are rewarded for doing well but are otherwise sanctioned for failing to keep their commitments.
