Nearly 1,500 Nurses Meeting with Lawmakers in Raleigh

Hundreds of nurses in lab coats will be rallying at the North Carolina General Assembly.

RALEIGH, N.C. - Feb. 19, 2015 - PRLog -- Downtown Raleigh will look a little bit like a hospital next Tuesday, February 24, when more than 1,400 Registered Nurses and nursing students from around the state descend on the General Assembly for the 2015 Nurses Day at the Legislature. Nurses will meet with their representatives, discuss issues important to the nursing profession and patient care, and gain insight into the legislative process.

“Nurses need to make sure they are an important part of the legislative conversation, because the entire health care landscape is evolving quickly,” said North Carolina Nurses Association CEO Tina Gordon, MPA, CAE, FACHE. “As the country’s most trusted profession, nursing is going to be more important than ever in helping ensure the health and well-being of North Carolina’s residents.”

The day’s events will begin with a program at the Raleigh Convention Center, including a keynote address from Janet Haebler, MSN, RN, Associate Director of State Government Affairs at the American Nurses Association. After lunch, the nurses – many of whom will be wearing their lab coats – will gather for a 1pm rally on the Legislative Lawn before going inside to meet with lawmakers.

ABOUT NCNA
Since 1902, the North Carolina Nurses Association has been the voice for North Carolina’s registered nurses. Formed by a group of nurses, the first objective of NCNA was the pursuit of the Nursing Practice Act, making North Carolina the first state in the nation to legalize the registration of nurses. Members of the North Carolina Nurses Association continue to be recognized nationally for having a significant impact on the profession and for advancing quality care in a variety of practice settings. NCNA leads the charge in the quest to keep North Carolina nurses on the cutting edge of nursing policy, education, practice and more. NCNA is proud to be the only nursing association in the state that represents all of North Carolina’s Registered Nurses.
