Bridgeport Village Hosts 2nd Annual Project Prom Donation Campaign

Prom season is just around the corner and once again that means it’s time for the 2nd annual Bridgeport Village Project Prom donation campaign.

PORTLAND, Ore. - Feb. 19, 2015 - PRLog -- From February 21-March 13, 2015 Bridgeport Village Guest Services will be collecting new or gently used prom and bridesmaid dresses in support of Abby’s Closet, a local non-profit providing FREE formal gowns to high school women for prom and other memorable events.

Abby’s closet was started in 2004 by Abby Egland of West Linn. When Abby was cleaning out her closet before leaving for college, she wondered how she could best pass along the pretty pink dress that she had worn to her prom. Her mom, Sally Egland, had a great idea: start a volunteer group that collects formal dresses and donates them each spring to high school women in need. To date, Abby’s Closet has given away over 13,000 prom gowns.  Every year Abby’s Closet hosts an Annual Prom Gown Giveaway where less fortunate high school girls in Oregon and SW Washington can choose a dress of their choice at NO COST.  This year’s event will be March 28-29 at the Oregon Convention Center, with a goal of having 7,500 dresses for the event. Abby’s Closet is currently at 4,500 gowns.

“We are blessed to have such a giving community filled with philanthropic patrons.  Last year Bridgeport Village was able to contribute 500 gowns to Abby’s Closet due to generous donations.  It is such a joy to see not only gently used items donated, but seeing that someone is willing to give the gift of a new prom dress or accessories – remembering what it was like to be a young woman dreaming of her perfect prom – there is something extra special about that.  We often hear stories from the women making the donations that bring tears to our eyes,” says Kimberly Blue, Regional Marketing Director, Bridgeport Village.

With each dress donated, young women who otherwise wouldn’t be able to can attend her high school prom.  Every day many young women find themselves in difficult situations with little money or family support, of which we are building the campaign this year based on the scenario that special occasions like high school prom should be accessible to all young women who wish to enjoy it, and not just for those with enough resources.

Dresses sized 0-2, 4-6 and 16+ and evening gowns and accessories are in the highest demand (but all sizes are welcome).  Bridgeport Village will be directly supporting that need through our Dress of Dreams – located in the Center Court Gazebo through the promotion period.  Visit the dress of dreams, select a “giving tag”, purchase the item listed at one of our participating Project Prom featured retailers and then drop off your donation at the Bridgeport Village Guest Services, located near Tommy Bahama.  Evening gowns, fashion jewelry, shoulder wraps, evening clutch/handbags are all welcome!  Donations are also being accepted for lightly used formal wear & jewelry (all sizes).
