New 24 Hour Veterinary Emergency Hospital Opening

GAINESVILLE, Va. - Feb. 17, 2015 - PRLog -- Artemis Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Services (VESS) will be opening in April 2015 to serve pet owners and general practice veterinarians in Prince William County serving Gainesville, Haymarket, Warrenton and Manassas. Located off of Wellington Road near Jiffy Lube Live, this veterinary hospital is for emergency services and are expanding to include specialty services such as veterinary surgery and internal medicine.  Artemis will have a full complement of specialty services and rehabilitation so that all of a patient’s specialty service needs can be met under one roof.

“Emergencies involving your pet can happen at anytime. A specialized emergency hospital guarantees that your pet always has a doctor on site to treat those unexpected emergencies, whether it is at 3 am or 3pm. Critically ill animals need monitoring every hour they are in hospital; seconds count if their status changes for the worse” said Dr Melanie Galanis who has been practicing veterinary emergency and critical care for over 10 years. Emergency veterinarians typically see a variety of cases ranging from the not life threatening torn toenail to life threatening injuries sustained from being hit by a car. Common ailments that are seen include vomiting and/or diarrhea, lameness, and ingestion of toxins (chocolate, grapes, prescription medications and lilies for example). Some illnesses may be easily treated and the animal can go home the same day, while some are much more intensive and will require the animal to be hospitalized. Some emergencies involve the need for emergency surgery, such as gastric dilatation volvulus, bloating or swelling of the abdomen, foreign objects causing an obstruction of the gastrointestinal tract, and wounds from animal bites. Artemis VESS works closely with the patient’s regular veterinarian by sharing records, x-ray images, diagnoses, treatments and advising  follow up visits to an owner’s regular veterinarian. Additionally, Artemis doctors will call and give status updates to the primary veterinarian on any patients that will need to stay in the hospital.

Artemis VESS is currently under construction and Michael Donovan, chief operating officer, reports, “we are on target to open mid-April. This has been a labor of love, from designing the hospital in a way that reduces the fear and anxiety that is felt by an owner and pet in an emergency situation, to adding the right staff that provides compassionate care to our patients.” Artemis VESS is at 7951 Gainesford Ct, Suite 115, Bristow, VA.
