Follow on Google News | A Reflection on the AFRICANCHILDREN'SCHOIR Workshop in TulsaThe African Children’s Choir began the workshop by singing a native song and dance accompanied by drum. The African Children’s Choir from Uganda then shared with the audience a map of their country showing where they lived in Eastern Africa and countries that border them. As the African Children’s Choir director spoke about how they dressed for special occasions, members of the choir adorned their native garments. The children of the African Children's Choir were then asked to tell everyone their native name, English name and what their aspiration was in life. These children ages 7-12 have hopes and dreams of becoming doctors, lawyers, pastors and police officers just to name a few. By being able participate in the choir, many of these children will see their dreams become a reality. As the workshop came to a close, the African Children’s Choir taught those who were present one of their traditional dances. Members of the two choirs collaborated in the spirit of that song and dance. The workshop not only provided an educational experience but a hands on experience for many young artists. The Tulsa Children’s Chorus was fortunate to have the ability to offer such a wonderful opportunity to the community. We hope that all who attended were able to take away a little something about the children of Africa and their culture! Thank you for being part of such a great experience. -by Cathy Hanson, Tulsa Children's Chorus Board of Trustees End
