The Venice Golf and Country Club to Invest $2.5 Million in Golf Course Improvements

SARASOTA, Fla. - Feb. 11, 2015 - PRLog -- The Venice Golf and Country Club – one of Southwest Florida’s most prestigious private golf communities – announced they are proceeding with a $2.5 million investment in cosmetic and functional golf course improvements during the summer of 2015. The projected grand re-opening is slated for October 2015. “Our Board of Directors has planned effectively to position The Venice Golf and Country Club for continued success,” said General Manager Jim Schell. “The result is a club our members are proud of and a wonderful place to invite friends and family to visit.”

The enhancement project includes installing a state-of-the-art golf course irrigation system to replace the original. The new irrigation system is estimated to reduce the amount of water consumption by approximately 30 to 40 percent annually. The club is internationally recognized as a role model for water resource management and sustainable environmental practices by the Golf Environmental Organization. Reducing water use is consistent with the environmental stewardship that the club embraces.

The project will also replace the grass on all the fairways, tees and greens. The fairways and tees will be replanted with Celebration Bermuda grass. This highly touted grass provides a dense stand of turf that is resistant to the many stresses of winter months. The greens will continue to use the highly successful Bermuda Tif Eagle grass, which consistently creates green speeds in the 10.0 – 11.0 range. Additionally, tees will be enlarged by 33 percent, allowing great teeing surfaces year-round.

The club has consistently kept to its schedule of long-range capital planning to maintain its high quality facilities and luxurious ambiance. Upgrades over the past five years include a beautifully landscaped swimming pool and outdoor entertainment area, which includes an 11-person hot tub, a separate baby wading pool, a large pool and a travertine pool deck. The clubhouse was remodeled in 2012 with a warm, appealing décor that is elegant yet comfortable. A new bag drop and a golf shop golf cart parking area was completed to enhance traffic flow and elevate the golf experience. Golf course bunkers were all redesigned and rebuilt in 2013.

In addition to cosmetic and functional improvements, The Venice Golf and Country Club adjusted the golf club entry fee and extended the membership offering beyond the front gate of the community. “Over the past few years, the membership model was modified to reflect the market and member expectations. We now proudly welcome members who do not live in The Venice Golf and Country Club community into our family of members,” said Schell. “This extension of membership continues to grow the club’s diversity and position in the greater Venice area.”
