Shlomit & Rebbesoul Debut Album Released Today; Jewish Roots Meets World Music

Feb. 10, 2015 - PRLog -- New York, NY, Tuesday, February 10: American/Israeli duo Shlomit & RebbeSoul released their debut album, “The Seal of Solomon,” today (2-10-15).  Comprised of Yemenite singer Shlomit Levi and guitarist RebbeSoul (aka Bruce Burger), the new album offers an enticing blend of world music instrumentation with traditional Yemenite folk songs, thus bringing modern sensibilities to ancient sounds and creating a truly unique, contemporary sound.  Drawing from numerous sources, some of the songs set music to poems by the foremost 17th century Poet of Yemen, Rabbi Shalom Shabazi, acknowledged as one of the greatest Jewish poets.

Shlomit Levi, born in Israel and now living in the U.S., grew up surrounded by the culture and music of her ancestral home of Yemen. A highly respected singer in her native Israel, she is well known as the voice on “Sapari,” the hit song by Orphaned Land, Israel’s groundbreaking group of Oriental Heavy Metal music.  RebbeSoul, originally from upstate New York and now living in Israel, is lauded as having created the modern version of Jewish Roots and World Music. His 1995 “Fringe of Blue” release remains one of the best selling Jewish music albums of all time.  As Shlomit adds a Yemenite spice to RebbeSoul’s musicianship, each brings their unique influences into the mix to create a wholly new genre of music.
