Chicago Flower & Garden Show, presented by Mariano’s Blooms March 14-22, 2015

         Vandalia, IL (Feb. 09, 2015) – Gardeners of any experience level can learn about the latest, easy-to-grow roses that “Love Where You Live,” at the Chicago Flower & Garden Show (, March 14-22, 2015 at Navy Pier ( For the first time in a decade, the show presents a rose garden - two in fact: one, a "classic" rose garden, and the other featuring miniatures and minifloras! Imagine: incredible blooming roses - in mid-March in Chicago!

“The rose gardens will not only bring more color, beauty, and variety of plant materials to the show, but also serve to ‘demystify’ the rose-growing process,” says Tony Abruscato, director of the Chicago Flower & Garden Show. “Visitors seeing the many ways that professionals incorporate these exceptional, hardy roses into gardens will be inspired to replicate those ideas at home.”He notes these will be among the show’s 22-featured gardens, Marketplace, seminars, chef demonstrations, and more.

But the year-long efforts of Susan Fox, of Gaga’s Garden®, in facilitating collaborations between growers and others “were key in making the show’s rose gardens a reality,” Abruscato says. Ms. Fox will also be sharing her in-depth knowledge on the subject by giving presentations and introducing executives from Star Roses & Plants, Tim Woods and Weeks Roses, Karen Kemp-Docksteader who will talk about:

Varieties of low-maintenance, brightly colored, easy-to-grow roses at the show from Star Roses and Plants and Weeks Roses;
Rare varieties of disease-resistant antique roses, including bourbons, hybrid perpetuals, teas, and hybrid musks, provided by Chicago’s Gethsemane Garden Center;
A garden of miniature and miniflora roses perfect for small balconies, patios, and containers from For Love of Roses.

“Roses work beautifully with companion plantings. We will be showing many plantings of roses along with ornamentals and perennials to give gardeners ideas on how to build their dream rose garden or enhance existing plantings,” she says. -Landscape Architect, Scott Mehaffey, assisted by Nathan Beckner have put so much thought into building the perfect classic rose garden, so everyone can get tips on the how-to’s of rose growing.” The miniature rose garden is designed by Atrium Landscape. Docents from the American Rose Society will also be on hand during the show to answer visitor questions.

“Let’s make growing roses easy,” - says Fox. American Rose Society President, Jolene Adams, who mentored Fox, has always said, “education is the key to getting folks growing roses.”  “Everyone wants a rose garden. When I ask people what’s keeping you from your heart’s desire? They say they think growing roses is too hard. At the show, we’ll talk about simple steps to have the rose garden you want.”

The rose gardens are open during regular show hours. The 2015 Chicago Flower & Garden Show, presented by Mariano’s runs daily from Saturday, March 14 through Sunday, March 22.
