Convene rolls out a closed-loop cashless payment solution from Systopia and AURES in Manhattan
A cashless payment and POS software solution from Systopia International, running on AURES Sango touchscreen hardware, now runs the hosted food service operations of Convene’s New York City Café venue.

Convene is a showcase for the latest software solution from specialist developer Systopia International. Explains Kristi Noyes, Operations Director, Systopia International:
While upgrading to Systopia software, Convene Café migrated its POS hardware from an aging Micros system that processed only cash and credit card payments to the new AURES Sango all-in-one till management system, which supports cash, credit card, and closed-loop cashless payments. Looking like no other POS unit, Sango frees up space under the touchscreen. “Sangos are a remarkable improvement over previous hardware. The touchscreen is exceptionally crisp and bright, and the black and steel units have a high-tech look,” adds Ms. Noyes.
The Convene Café offers both salad bar and hot chef-station items which can be purchased by weight. Paying for these items is a smooth process, as weigh scales have been attached to the Sangos, and this functionality integrated into the Systopia software.
Systopia’s Good2Go desktop application provides a convenient way for employees to load funds onto their cashless accounts. With Good2Go, an employee uses a credit card to make a one-time account recharge, online, or can establish an automated account recharge to occur at selected thresholds. Purchases and recharge activity can be reviewed online by the employee, anytime and from anywhere.
The Systopia cashless payment technology opens the door to complementary systems such as loyalty and rewards programs. Convene has been able to eliminate its former paper punch card system for the “Coffee Club”. Now, Coffee Club points are earned and redeemed electronically from the customer’s cashless account.
Convene is well-pleased with its new cashless payment system and the benefits to both the customers and Convene’s bottom line. Not only is cashless proving to be a faster option for service, Convene has dedicated one of its POS to be a cashless ‘scan and go’ fast lane. Convene is now able to generate reports at the touch of a button, in real-time, and spends much less time on manual processes.
Mark DePiero, Convene’s Vice President of Operations, sums up the system’s success: “The Systopia solution and AURES hardware have modernized our operations and significantly increased guest satisfaction with the speed of service at the POS. Our guests are rapidly adopting cashless payment with the Convene Café Card, and are enjoying the Good2Go automatic recharge function. By addition of Systopia we’ve increased productivity and made the paying process more efficient for café visitors.”
